What I enjoy most, and look for in my photography is the essence of the image...what is the "one thing" you believe communicates all there is to know about the subject.
For example, one of my favorite photographs of my daughter is one where you can see a strand of hair spilling across her eye, and a small bruise on her chin. It would have been simple to brush her hair, put a bit of makeup on the spot, or "Photoshop" all of that out of the image, but that would not have been "Lauren."
This is what I am seeking to accomplish in my work: I am looking for the essence of the subject; what makes it what it is. This, I believe, is one of the key differences between still photography and videography. Or maybe it's just because I'm not so good at video!
I think that another key to greatly improved images is in having good equipment and being very familiar with how to operate it. I consider that I can learn something every time I go out shooting

I have been a photographer for the past 40 years. I would say that I am an advanced amateur. My specific interests are in Landscapes, Nature, Candid Portraits, and some Aviation photography. I use Nikon equipment exclusively.
Though I do not currently do photography professionally, most of my work is for sale and can be purchased on this site.
I have taken portraits and weddings, and I prefer to use the "photojournalistic approach" which is more along the lines of capturing moments and emotions without posing the subjects.
For the most part, I enjoy taking photographs using natural light, however, I will use fill light when shadows or contrast gets in the way.
Posed photographs are probably my least favorite images to take in that I feel they are much less natural. I think it is important to try and get to know the subject (animate or inanimate) as much as possible.
